Fun weekend!

We had such a fun weekend. It was really relaxing as well. I can't even remember when I felt so relaxed with no worries... it was really nice! Thanks Dad and Kinda!

The kids and I met Dad and Kinda at Kemah on Saturday and rode a few kiddie rides. We then met up with my step-brother (Alan and his girlfriend) and my step-sister (Krystie) and her husband and daughter (Zoe). We had lunch at the Cadillac Bar which is right off the water. Wyatt had a hard time eating because he just wanted to watch the boats go by. It was a lot of fun and nice to see some family I haven't seen in a long time. After that we rode the train around the boardwalk with the kids, and then we drove to Galveston.

Now, if you remember, Galveston was hit by hurricane Ike last summer. A lot of things were destroyed and the island was closed off for a while. Most of the buildings and boats have been fixed but there were still places that had hurricane damage.

We stayed at Casa Del Mar which is just across the wall from the beach. (After the huge hurricane in 1900 that pretty much destroyed everything on Galveston, they build this 'wall' along the beach to keep it protected from hurricanes.) So we just had to cross the wall to get to the beach. We had an amazing view (minus the cars). Both kids really enjoyed looking at the beach and water, but they had an even better time at the beach. Wyatt of course loved the water and had a good time playing in the sand with Grandpa. Kylee enjoyed the water, but preferred to find seashells and build a sand castle. After the evening at the beach we went out to dinner.

That night (Saturday) the kids were having a great time playing with MeMe and Grandpa in the Condo. I had a nice time letting someone else entertain them too. Anyhow, Wyatt was a little rough on the bed and jumped a couple of tons and came down and smacked his forehead on the headboard (which was more like a counter top.) He had a lot of blood, but then again, heads bleed a lot. I wasn't too worried about it, but he wouldn't let me put anything on it and every time he made a face or cried it would start bleeding again. So Dad thought it was a good idea to take him to the Emergency room to get it looked at. I won't go into detail about the ride there, cause we couldn't find it! It was horrible, no signs or anything saying it was an ER or urgent care. We had to get a police man to lead us there. Anyhow, we all know that Wyatt hates doctors, even to get his height and weight. So it was a pain to get him to do anything, even to let someone look at it. The doctor came in and wanted to put some dermabond there instead of sutures which was good. We had to put him in a papoose to strap him down so he would be still. He almost fought his way out of that though, that kid is strong. But the dermabond ended up working well and it looks so much better. The only thing was, he couldn't go to the beach or get it wet for a week. After getting home from the ER at 1 am we all went to sleep.

Sunday we woke up with our handy alarm clocks (the kids) and got ready to go to Moody Gardens. (Make sure you check out that link, cause Moody Gardens is an amazing place to go.) We met up with Lyndall, Tracey, and Kaley, and Uncle Don and Aunt Laurie. We first went to Dinosaur Alive where they have life size dinosaurs that really move and make noise. There was also a sandbox that the kids can find dinosaur bones and shark and crocodile teeth. We found two shark teeth! They both really enjoyed the dinosaurs as long as we were holding them.

After the dinosaurs we went to the Rainforest. Its in a huge pyramid with lots of plants, trees, birds, and fish. They used to have cats, monkeys, and bats, but I assume something happened to them after the hurricane. The kids still enjoyed looking at the fish and pretty flowers.

Last was the Aquarium pyramid which is always my favorite. They have tons of fish, penguins, sharks, and seals. There is an area where you can touch star fish and other lil sea creatures like that. This attraction was the kids' favorite, as well as mine.

Monday morning we left Galveston and met up with Lyndall and Kaley at the Children's Museum of Houston. I was really looking forward to this, but didn't realize how crowded it would be. There were tons of kids there, and most of them were older. I think that made it hard for the younger ones to enjoy the same stuff too, but everyone still had a good time. We went to the Tot Spot first were the younger kids could explore and have some fun without the older ones. I took Kylee into Kidtropolis, but once again, there were too many kids there to enjoy it. But they had a grocery store, bank, voting area, news room, city hall, vet clinic, and much more. It was for older kids, but Kylee would have enjoyed it if it wasn't as crowded. There were a few other things we did there, but didn't get to go to every area in there. It was HUGE. I am thinking about taking them one more time before we leave Houston so we can go to the other areas we missed.... maybe on a less busy day (even though the workers said they didn't consider that busy). Overall, we had a good time there.

That marked the end of our weekend with Dad and Kinda. We had such a great time with them and really appreciate everything and the time spent together.

I don't know what this week has in store for us, maybe the bouncy gym or Build-A-Bear.

Oh, and I won't be able to upload pictures to flickr until I get home.... sorry in advance for the pic overload though, there will be tons and tons of pics. :)
