Fishing

We packed up our trailblazer full of stuff for our small fishing trip on Saturday. We had several coolers with food, drinks and lots of snacks for the kids. Several chairs, a pack-n-play for Wyatt and a little table for Kylee. I brought several toys and even play d'oh just in case Kylee got bored. We went to a lake about an hour south of here with our friends, Jenny, James and their two kids Carter and Jack. We bought Kylee her own barbie fishing pole a few weeks prior, but we borrowed Jenny and James' fishing poles for us.

We didn't catch any fish, but everyone had a good time. Kylee could even cast her fishing pole! I did a bit of fishing, but I mostly took care of the kids.

There was one incident though. While we were fishing I could hear this kid screaming, but couldn't see anyone. Both James' heard it too and decided to investigate. We saw a paddle boat that had several kids in it early banked behind a hill. So the boys ran over there (well, my James' walked there). Shortly after, Jenny's James ran back, told the mom something, grabbed a knife and ran back by the boat. Then we saw James hold up a huge fish and throw it back into the water. Finally, the boys came back and so did this young boy, about 12 yrs old. Apparently, he was fish jumping (trying to catch fish with his bare hands) and ended up grabbing a carp. The carp had a really sharp fin on top that got stuck in his palm. The fish was stuck and couldn't get out. James had to cut the fish loose! I saw the fin still stuck in his palm when he came down. It looked really really baby! Poor kid.

We saw several kids in the paddle boat prior to that, ranging from about 8 yrs to 12 years. Not a single one with a life jacket! I was really surprised.

Anyhow, we had a blast. Me and James even bought our own fishing poles. I think we'll be going back there this weekend... hopefully. :)

From looking at the pictures on Flickr, it appears that everyone had a great time on the fishing trip. I felt so proud of Kylee Anne casting her fishing pole!!
